Fallen Earth Classic, a spiritual successor to the original Fallen Earth by Trion Worlds is coming soon. It will be free-to-play and available in June 2018 on Steam!
Fallen Earth Classic is definitely happening, soon, and it’ll be free-to-play to boot. Fallen Earth was an MMO that had its own unique take on the genre. The game has been inactive for a while now. It was announced in May of 2018 that Fallen Earth would be returning with a new developer, but there has been no word since then.
We reported last week that Little Orbit CEO Matt Scott had hinted at a Fallen Earth Classic. It’s more than a tease right now.
He said, “I am thrilled to report that Fallen Earth Classic will be a genuine thing.” “We’re nearing the end of bringing the servers back up, and as some of you on Discord have seen, elements of the game are starting to react again.” There will be a launch announcement shortly, but before that, I’d want to raise a few of debate topics here to appropriately establish expectations.”
“I’m simply doing this for fun and to get the game back online.” In order to pull this off, several considerations had to be taken. Just know that when we go through the remainder of my bullets, I had to strike a balance between putting this back up in a reasonable amount of time and the laundry list of things I’m sure gamers would have desired. We gave it our all. While they wait for the next edition of the game, I hope that gamers will appreciate the challenge of re-conquering the wastelands from the ground up.”
Scott did point out that Valve has yet to restore the game on Steam, but the team is still waiting, and the team is well aware that the original game’s server structure isn’t perfect — implying that “this is an experiment.” It is, however, an experiment that will not be profited from.
“I don’t want to commercialize this version of the game for a variety of reasons,” Scott explains. “It’s completely free to play (see to #1 above).” I’m going to look at enabling the highest level membership benefits for everyone, but you won’t be able to shop in the online store.”
In any case, gamers who have missed the game since its untimely but short halt in 2019 will be overjoyed.
