The first week of the NFL season provided plenty of fodder for debate among fans and analysts. During the first week, there were spectacular finishes, dubious calls (or no-called), and even confused realities! Injuries, on the other hand, are a part of the game, and clubs will have to figure out which players will be able to participate in Week 2.
Unfortunate diagnoses have already been obtained by several clubs for key players on their squads. Because of a hip subluxation injury he sustained against the Los Angeles Chargers, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will be sidelined for at least eight weeks for the Washington Football Team. DeMarcus Lawrence, a defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys, will be out for six to eight weeks due to a fractured foot. The Baltimore Ravens’ injury problems continue, as cornerback Chris Westry has torn his lateral meniscus and will be sidelined for at least a month. That’s only the start of the injuries as we approach the weekend.
Teams are putting the finishing touches on their Friday injury reports, and our NFL writers have you covered with a list of big-name players who are dealing with ailments that may affect their availability in Week 2 — and perhaps beyond.
Here are some quick links: PickCenter | Schedule | Depth Charts
Ankle injury
Stanley not having practiced all week, it would be surprising if he played Sunday night. If Stanley is out, Alejandro Villanueva, who has struggled this season, will shift to left tackle to protect Lamar Jackson’s blindside. Stanley would be Baltimore’s sixth key offensive player to miss time this season. After Friday’s practice, coach John Harbaugh was asked about Stanley’s availability “For the remainder of the season, I’m not planning on making any remarks regarding injuries. So, you may continue to inquire, but those are my views on the matter.” Jamison Hensley (Jamison Hensley)
Ankle injury
Wills, quarterback Baker Mayfield’s blindside protector, hurt his ankle in the season opener last weekend and hasn’t been able to practice this week. Because his replacement, Chris Hubbard, is struggling with a triceps injury, youngster James Hudson III may start at left tackle on Sunday if Wills, who is doubtful, is unable to play. Jake Trotter’s remark
Quadriceps injury
After colliding with an offensive player during practice on Wednesday, Kazee was restricted on Thursday and did not practice on Friday. There’s still a chance he’ll play, but the larger problem is the safety position as a whole.
Due to a groin injury, Donovan Wilson did not practice this week. It’s not ideal for the Cowboys to be without both safeties against a pass attack that loves to take long shots down the field. Malik Hooker, who was inactive in Week 1, will play this week and may be promoted to the starting lineup. Todd Archer is a writer.
Ankle injury
Chubb was restricted in practice both Wednesday and Thursday after missing the season opening last week due to an ankle ailment. He did, however, work with the defense for around 12 plays in Wednesday’s practice and was on track for more in Thursday’s session. If he has no more problems following his training on Thursday, he should be able to play against the Jaguars in Jacksonville on Sunday. Von Miller recorded two sacks and three tackles for loss in Chubb’s absence in the opener. Legwold, Jeff

Back injury
In the opener, the two-time Pro Bowler attempted to play despite the ailment and managed 18 plays, but it didn’t help his ailing back. Coaches debated whether or not to retain him on the active roster and use him in a similar capacity, but ultimately opted to place him on injured reserve. He’ll be sidelined for at least three games as a result. “Why don’t we attempt to get him as healthy as possible so we may perhaps have him more easily available?” Matt LaFleur, the head coach of the Green Bay Packers, said. Preston Smith and Rashan Gary will handle the bulk of the snaps on the edge for the time being, with Jonathan Garvin and Chauncey Rivers assisting them. Demovsky, Rob
Hamstring injury
Clark missed last week’s game against the Browns but is expected to play against the Ravens on Sunday night. It’s unclear how efficient he’ll be or how much he’ll play after missing much of training camp and the preseason. The Chiefs, who failed to rush the passer last week with the exception of Chris Jones, may need Clark’s assistance on Sunday night. Adam Teicher’s remark
Toe and ankle injury
With Jacobs out due to toe and ankle ailments, the Raiders’ rushing burden should fall to newcomer Peyton Barber, who signed with Las Vegas on Sept. 4, while Kenyan Drake will continue to serve as a pass-catching back. Barber will have a “chance” to play against the Steelers, according to Raiders coach Jon Gruden. “We like Barber a lot, and we believe he’s a great back,” Gruden said. “I enjoy how he catches, sprints, and takes up blitzes… We’re ecstatic about the chance to show what we’ve got.” Gutierrez, Paul
Knee injury
For the second week in a row, the Vikings will be without Anthony Barr (knee). Courtney Cronin (Courtney Cronin)
Quadriceps injury
Minnesota will already be without Barr, and it’s unclear if Kendricks, who has a quad ailment, will be able to play in Sunday’s game against Arizona. Kendricks appeared on the injury report for the first time on Thursday and is listed as doubtful for the Cardinals game. Nick Vigil, Blake Lynch, and Troy Dye are the next linebackers in line if Minnesota loses its top two linebackers. Courtney Cronin (Courtney Cronin)

New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore
Thumb injury
Despite undergoing thumb surgery earlier this week, Lattimore has a decent chance of playing on Sunday. Coach Sean Payton said Lattimore would likely be a “game-time decision” after he returned to practice on a limited basis on Thursday and Friday. Against Carolina’s explosive combination of DJ Moore and Robby Anderson, Lattimore is obviously important. However, the Saints have enough depth, with veteran Bradley Roby ready to make his Saints debut after being acquired in a trade last week and rookie Paulson Adebo showing competent as a starter last week. Shoulder injury
Davenport was put on injured reserve on Friday, which means he’ll be out for at least three games. Davenport was expected to have a breakthrough year, and the Saints were relying on him after releasing Trey Hendrickson in free agency. Tanoh Kpassagnon, the experienced backup, is also doubtful for Sunday’s game against Carolina. With perennial Pro Bowler Cameron Jordan, backup Carl Granderson, and rookie first-round selection Payton Turner, the Saints still have good depth at the position. Triplett, Mike

Elbow injury
Alexander was put on injured reserve on Friday, which means he will be out for at least three games. That’s a pity, since Alexander looked fantastic this summer and in Week 1, only nine months after tearing his Achilles tendon. All-Pro Demario Davis and up-and-coming young talents Zack Baun and Kaden Elliss provide a strong starting combination for the Saints. However, they’ll be up against one of the hardest quarterbacks in the NFL in Carolina’s Christian McCaffrey, and depth will be a problem with backups Pete Werner and Chase Hansen both ruled out. Triplett, Mike
Calf injury
McCoy, who has established himself as one of the finest young centers in the NFL, will be missed. Last week against Green Bay, though, the Saints’ offensive line remained unexpectedly dominating without him. Cesar Ruiz, the Saints’ 2020 first-round selection who played center at Michigan before switching to guard in the NFL, is a solid option. But that means they’ll have to replace Ruiz at right guard with a backup. Triplett, Mike
Groin injury
Bush was one of three Steelers players limited in the last practice of the week, according to the team’s injury report. Bush and Joe Haden both have groin issues, while Zach Gentry, the tight end, has an ankle injury. The most worrisome aspect of Bush’s situation is that he will be a part of the attempt to slow down Raiders tight end Darren Waller. Brooke Pryor is an actress who plays Brooke Pryor.
Calf injury
Penny, the Seahawks’ No. 2 running back, is listed as questionable due to a calf injury he sustained in the team’s opener. This might open the door for Alex Collins to get some playing time behind starter Chris Carson. Collins was inactive in the opener, but if Penny is out, he’d be a better fit to replace Carson on early downs than DeeJay Dallas or Travis Homer. Brady Henderson’s quote
Knee injury
Kinlaw’s absence was noticed early last week, as the Lions frequently gashed the Niners for huge runs up the middle, averaging 4.8 yards per carry on the day. Kinlaw, on the other hand, returned to practice on a limited basis on Thursday and Friday and is classified as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Eagles. Kinlaw’s return would be a good development for the Niners after they ran for 173 yards and averaged 5.6 yards per attempt last week. Nick Wagoner is a writer.
Hamstring injury
Coach Bruce Arians says starting strong safety Devin Whitehead will be “full go” this week after missing a significant part of training camp and the preseason. In addition to Ross Cockrell, Whitehead is an enforcer below, and his return allows the Bucs to replace Sean Murphy-vacant Bunting’s nickelback position with Mike Edwards or Antoine Winfield.
