The United States is facing growing pressure to allow European travelers into the country, after President Trump’s executive order on immigration was struck down by federal courts.

BRUSSELS— The European Union’s senior official urged the Biden administration to move quickly to match Europe’s openness to Americans, asking the US to lift its restriction on travelers from the union.
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen’s remarks on Wednesday indicate that the possibility of U.S. tourists being barred from entering Europe due to the coronavirus epidemic is increasing.
In June, the EU proposed that member states allow vaccinated and unvaccinated Americans to travel for non-essential purposes. National authorities make the ultimate decision.
Every two weeks, EU authorities revise the bloc’s travel access lists. With the spread of the Delta strain in the United States, there is an increasing likelihood that unvaccinated tourists may be barred again before the end of the summer, according to EU officials.
If the Biden administration does not open U.S. borders to Europeans, EU nations, notably Germany, are facing demands to exclude all non-essential U.S. visitors.

Furthermore, if the Biden administration does not open U.S. borders to Europeans, there is increasing pressure from member nations, particularly Germany, to prohibit any non-essential U.S. visits. Each EU member state may decide whether or not to allow tourists who have been vaccinated to enter.
Ms. Von der Leyen said, “We must address this issue as quickly as possible, and we are in touch with our American allies.” “This can’t go on for weeks,” says the narrator.
The warning came as other nations increased their restrictions on Americans visiting their country. Israel said on Tuesday that from August 11, travelers from the United States and a number of other countries would be required to quarantine for at least seven days upon entering the country, even if they are vaccinated or have recovered from Covid-19.
The EU’s decision to admit U.S. visitors was one of a series of efforts by Washington and Europe to mend fences following the Trump administration’s tensions. It occurred soon after President Biden met with EU leaders in Brussels.
According to European authorities, Mr. Biden’s staff said at the time that the restriction on European visits would be addressed as soon as possible, but weeks later, nothing has changed. Visitors from Canada, China, and Brazil, among other nations, are subject to US travel restrictions.
Because of the spread of the Delta strain, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said Monday that the US will maintain current travel restrictions in place for the time being.

European authorities have been more irritated with the United States’ position, particularly since the EU has begun issuing formal vaccination certificates to inoculated EU nationals. Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany addressed the matter during her recent visit to Washington. Officials in Brussels said they are still waiting for a new date for a meeting of a joint US-EU working group on the travel issue. The most recent meeting took place on July 9.
Despite this, there is considerable pressure from inside the union to maintain borders open for non-European tourists throughout the summer season. For nations like Greece, Italy, and Spain, which were hard affected by the epidemic, tourism is a key sector.
Nonessential tourists from 22 other nations are now permitted in the bloc.
The EU chooses which countries to put on its recommended travel list based on a number of factors, the most important of which is the comparative health condition in other nations. The EU and its member states are also expected to consider whether an external nation provides reciprocal access to EU residents.
Despite the fact that U.S. individuals were permitted to visit the EU in June despite the US travel ban being in place, the EU continues to advise against non-essential Chinese tourists due to Beijing’s restriction on EU nationals traveling to China.
